Configurable modular transfer for robot assembly cells

The LCM100 linear conveyor module, a unique solution for robotic assembly by Yamaha Factory Automation Section, enables cleaner, quieter, and more flexible workpiece transport. By simplifying production startup, reducing cycle times, and increasing accuracy, the modules boost productivity and yield, while also cutting noise, increasing reliability, and reducing the size of robot assembly cells.

Unlike conventional belt-and roller conveyors, each LCM100 module contains an independently controlled high-speed linear motor that enables bidirectional movement and programmable speed up to 3000 mm/s. Production lines can be configured optimally, not dependent on the longest process cycle time, and utilize inline equipment more efficiently to save space and capital expenditure. Further benefits of the linear drives include low friction and lag-free acceleration and deceleration.

The robust and stable sliders, combined with positioning accuracy better than ±0.015mm, allow assembly tasks to be performed directly on the module. With no need to de-palletise and move workpieces from a conventional conveyor to a work-table, tact time can be faster and assembly cells smaller and more cost-effective. Without physical microswitches or end stops, slider stop positions can be quickly and easily reprogrammed in software.

The modules are available in standard 480 mm and 640 mm lengths and carry 15 kg maximum payload. A 400 mm circulation module is also available.
