Maximum Power in the Smallest Possible Space!

Servotecnica has been known on the motion control market for over forty years; today, however, it is not only a distributor, but also a manufacturer of components under its own brand. Among these are the coreless micromotors, a technology able to obtain the maximum power in the smallest possible space, but not only…

Servotecnica has just turned 40: four decades of history that resulted into a consolidated and recognized player in the distribution of motion control components for motion control, an activity which still represents the company’s core business. Headquartered in Nova Milanese (MB), Servotecnica has always chosen to collaborate with important, high-end brands and intends to continue along this path in the future.
Over the years, the need has arisen to integrate the offer, already very wide, with products under its own brand, in order to complete the range of solutions and satisfy the need to have the best product at the most attractive price possible. Thanks to the know-how acquired in many years of work in synergy with Italian and foreign customers and the always present and valuable collaboration with the main brands on the market, in 2005 Servotecnica decided to start the production of rotary couplings and servomotors. To facilitate access to foreign markets, Servotecnica GmbH was established in Germany in 2016; today Servotecnica has achieved excellent coverage, with several agencies in Europe, as well as partners in the US market. In 2019, it also started the production of micromotors; these components are now marketed under the Servotecnica brand not only in Italy but also in the European Extra-European markets. Josafatt Bernocchi, Servotecnica’s Product Manager for five years now, explains the context: “Servotecnica is the exclusive distributor of prestigious brands on the Italian market and this activity remains very important for our business. At the same time, however, the percentage of products under the Servotecnica brand is growing, completing, even better, our range of solutions. Moreover, with these products we have also access to foreign markets, European and not only: thanks to our efficient distribution network, the demand is growing and we are sure that our compence, attitude to listening and solution provider, will make us appreciated as on the national territory.

Micromotors: micro size, high torque and reliability

Servotecnica’s offer includes coreless (and ironless) micromotors in the two brushed and brushless macro-families, from a minimum size of 10 mm in diameter up to 50 mm. Produced in synergy with several partners and marketed since 2017, these components have been the subject of intense promotional activity in recent years. A third family consists of flat ironcore motors with a “flat” size that grows in diameter. “These motors,” Bernocchi continues, “are well suited to medical applications, for example exoskeletons where a flat, space-saving design with high torque is required.
Designed for this type of application, flat motors are gradually finding use in many other application sectors, for example electric grippers, gripper hands mounted on collaborative robots and robotics in general. Servotecnica’s product offering also includes planetary gearboxes, which can be easily combined with both coreless and flat motors.

Customization: the added value for the customer

In most cases micromotors are customized according to the application. “Customization – explains Bernocchi – has always represented the added value that Servotecnica offers its customers. A dedicated office within the company, led by a project manager, takes care of the projects developed around the application, integrating and assembling the various components, such as electronics, motors and so on. Customization is done on most products: from the simple D-cut on the shaft, up to much more complex customizations, which also include the development of wiring, the preparation of mechanical interfaces, up to the integration of electronics.

360° service: from design to after-sales

Service is another important plus that Servotecnica is able to provide its customers with. Technical support is provided throughout the entire process: from the design and consulting phase, through the offer of a system solution, to after-sales service. “Compared to the big multinational,” concludes Bernocchi, “we are able to offer a more targeted service, a more advanced customization, and competitive list prices… after a difficult 2020, which has taught us a lot, we expect a better 2021 full of new challenges.
