In many sectors, continuous analysis of water quality plays a key role. For instance, in production processes it allows to maintain operational efficiency and minimize downtime caused by abnormal discharges. Continuous wastewater analysis prevents harmful organic and inorganic substances from being discharged directly into the environment. Monitoring is also essential to ensure adequate quality of water intended for human consumption: in Italy there is no lack of situations potentially at risk of non-compliance requiring an approach based on prevention and permanent monitoring.
For these and other applications, reliable measuring instruments must be used, capable of analysing various parameters such as nitrates, turbidity of organic substances, colour, pH, free and total chlorine, conductivity, salinity, dissolved oxygen and other parameters.

A multiparameter probe

The spectro::lyser V3 multiparameter probe is the suitable solution for monitoring water quality in “Early Warning” systems. Compared to the probe launched on the market twenty years earlier, it is three times more stable and accurate, six times faster in measurement and requires a minimum response time (10 seconds). This probe records the absorption spectrum of UV/VIS radiation (fingerprint): using the information contained in it, it can simultaneously monitor over 10 different parameters (TSS, TS, turbidity, colour, TOC, DOC, BOD, COD, NO3-N, NO3, chloramine, HS-, O3, CLD, Chl -a, BTX, UV254) and report any abnormal variations. A variable colour LED ring identifies the sensor status: blue if it works correctly, yellow if it is in service mode, red if it detects errors. For optimum sensitivity in various applications, spectro::lyser V3 is available in different optical paths: 35 mm for drinking water, 5 mm for surface water and 1 mm for waste water. Besides, this probe is very energy efficient and can be powered by batteries or solar panel (with “sleep” mode for low power consumption).

Remote monitoring with IoT qualification

Like electricity and gas, the world of water is becoming an increasingly evolved, continuously monitored and technologically interactive sector. Water quality monitoring benefits greatly from the integration of IoT technology. The spectro::lyser V3 probe is in fact IoT enabled, has an integrated web server and does not require terminals to operate; monitoring is therefore completely manageable remotely. Configuration and remote display of the probe and measured data are simple and immediate thanks to the intuitive web interface Io::Tool.

Measurement flexibility and other benefits

The spectro::lyser V3 probe offers high measurement flexibility, and the powerful integrated data logger (with 8 GB memory) allows data logging for many years. Direct data communication with a PC, tablet or smartphone is possible via Bluetooth or Wlan; maximum data security is guaranteed by encryption and the TCP/IP transfer protocol. spectro::lyser V3 is factory pre-calibrated for a large number of standard applications, and local multipoint calibration is possible. Like all s::can spectrometric probes, it uses an automatic compressed air cleaning system to remove scale. The system has proven to be efficient and reliable even in untreated wastewater, avoiding manual cleaning of the probes.
