A manufacturer of adhesives has chosen to use Doosan H-series cobots offered by INDEVA Cobotics for the disposal and palletisation of products. Among the advantages brought by these robots is re-deployment, which is possible thanks to the palletising software created by INDEVA, which allows the type of pallet required to be reconfigured according to the size of the boxes.
A well-known manufacturer of excellent adhesives has found difficulty in sorting and palletising its finished products. Forced to employ four operators at their end of line with three people in charge of quality control and packaging and one dedicated to palletizing. Another problem linked to the production operations that characterise the adhesive materials sector is their highly repetitive, boring and strongly impacting on the health of the operators, who are forced to repeat loading/unloading operations that are a source of skeletal muscle disorders. In order to improve the ergonomics of operations, increase productivity and employ operators in jobs with greater added value, the company has decided to consider automation proposals, focusing on the search for a flexible and non-invasive robotic system that does not require the upheaval of its corporate layout and the implementation of costly and cumbersome protection cages. The company decided to make use of INDEVA Cobotics collaborative robotics systems, versatile and with rapid economic return, the Doosan Cobots proposed by INDEVA are able to automate most of the production tasks of a production reality, such as palletising. The choice fell on three H-series Cobots, able to offer a payload of 20 kg and a range of action of 1,700 mm, which combines its large load capacity with the precision given by the six load cells integrated in its joints. The integration of these cobots in the company’s end of line has been quick and easy, also thanks to INDEVA’s great experience, which has been working for forty years in the field of ergonomics and safety at work.
The advantage of cobot re-deployment
The simplicity of configuration and operation of Doosan cobots has allowed the company to employ only two operators in quality control and component boxing, placing the other two operators on activities with greater added value. The company has not cut any jobs, in fact, the cobots have included a productivity surplus in the process that has allowed the customer to become more competitive. Among the advantages clearly perceived by the company is the re-deployment of the cobots, automation solutions that is simple and quick to apply to different processes. This is possible thanks to the palletizing software, entirely developed by INDEVA Cobotics, and able to manage boxes of different sizes. Thanks to this software it is possible to reconfigure the type of pallet required according to the size of boxes to be palletised whenever the operator needs it.
The palletising program is a graphical programming method, designed to allow users to quickly create programs for palletizing with Doosan collaborative robots: it makes it even easier to program and use the cobot, without requiring specific training and thus lowering the barriers for those using a collaborative robot for the first time. The operator can simply manage the size of the boxes and pallet he wants to make, immediately displaying the results and adjusting the actions of the cobot in seconds.
